Nude woman(Venus of Willendorf), from Willendorf, Austria, ca. 28,000-25,000 BCE. Limestone, 11.1 cm.
One of the oldest sculptures known, this tiny figurine, with its anatomical exaggeration, typifies Paleolithic representations of women, whose child-bearing capabilities ensured the survival of the species.

Polykleitos, Doryphoros(Spear Doryphoros). Roman copy from the palaestra, Pompeii, Italy, of a bronze statue of ca. 450-440 BCE. Marble, 6'11'' high.
Polykleitos sought to portray the perfect man and to impose order to human movement. He achieved his goals through harmonic proportions and a system of cross balanced for all parts of the body.
