Augustus of Promaporta, 20CE, Roman Empire. Marble, 203 cm, Rome, Italy.
During the time when Augustus is the leader of the Roman Empire, the development of sculptures has reached it's highest peak. The portait for the emperors is not only well carved, but also being created with divinity. The armor of the sculpture is carved with many reliefs, and his position shows that he is giving commands. The god Cupid is carved hanging on the right foot of Augustus which indicated that Augustus is devine and with the blessings from Venus and Cupid.
The cloth for the sculpture is extremly detailed with gravity. There is not many facial expression on the sculpture with give the figure a solemn feeling.
